DONOR PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY
Protection of Donor’s Interests
Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation (MTCF) and its paid and volunteer staff and other representatives will always consider the interests of its donors as the first priority in the gift planning process. This will include, but not be limited to, the donor’s financial situation and philanthropic interests, as well as any tax or other legal matters discovered by our representatives while planning for a gift. A donor can expect any representative of MTCF to reflect our commitment to our mission and their privacy.
Donor Confidentiality
Information learned by any representative of MTCF about a donor or the donor’s assets or philanthropic intentions will be held in strict confidence and will be protected against compromise or data loss.
Donor Intent
If there should come a time that the MTCF cannot use the funds for the program for which the donor originally intended, MTCF reserves the right to use the fund for a similar and like purpose, or any other purpose, with the approval of the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, and with the donor if possible.
Use of Donors’ Names
For marketing or recognition purposes, MTCF is considered an opt-out organization. Donor names and gifts, organized by range of giving levels, are public, unless a donor explicitly informs MTCF that they want their demographic information and/or their gift information to be anonymous. Because MTCF is organized to conduct fundraising for community municipalities and 501(C)3 organizations, MTCF will be allowed to provide donor names, gifts organized by range of giving levels, and physical addresses to benefitting organizations upon request.
This policy will be included on the MTCF web site to notify donors and the public of this practice.
