At the Jonathan Clark House annual meeting on January 13, 2026, the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation proudly presented two checks totaling $9,819.77 to support both recent preservation work and ongoing educational programming at the historic museum.
During MTCF’s Fall 2025 grant cycle, the Foundation awarded $6,000 toward the museum’s exterior renovation project—an extensive, multi-phase effort completed last year. The project focused on repairing and restoring the building’s wood exterior, including cornices, windows, and alcove areas, ensuring the 1848 home remains preserved for generations. A ribbon cutting was held in September 2025 to celebrate the successful completion of this important preservation milestone.
In addition, $3,819.77 in donor-designated funds collected in 2025 were presented to support the museum’s educational programming. These annual contributions help expand the museum’s ability to share local history with the community through tours, events, and hands-on learning experiences.
“Our recent preservation project has been an important undertaking as we preserve the historic 1848 house,” said Executive Director Nina Look. “MTCF was here with us back in 2012 when the project was just a distant dream. We value our continued partnership with the Foundation.”
The Jonathan Clark House holds a rare distinction as both a City of Mequon Landmark and a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places—an honor achieved thanks in part to the advocacy of Dr. Gregory Custer in the 1980s. Today, the museum continues to serve as a treasured educational and cultural resource for the community.
Since its founding in 1999, MTCF has awarded more than $1.5 million to support recreational, cultural, beautification, and community improvement projects throughout Mequon and Thiensville. The Foundation is proud to continue supporting the preservation and storytelling of local history through its partnership with the Jonathan Clark House.
