Indian inspired food and dance entertainment will be highlighted at this year’s Gala in the Park on Saturday, June 3, at Village Park, 250 Elm St.
Presented by the Thiensville Village Park ReImagined Committee and sponsored by the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation, the fifth annual event — titled Bollywood Nights — will feature authentic Indian cuisine prepared by Saffron MKE, as well as a performance by the Mandala Arts Group, a Chicago-based nonprofit that connects people with the vibrancy of South Asian dance.
“Each year we’ve aimed to provide a unique food and entertainment experience to help raise money for the park,” Village Park ReImagined co-chair Tarrah Singh Beyer said. “The flavors, colors and entertainment from India are something I cannot wait to share with the community.”
One hundred percent of the funds raised at the event will be dedicated toward building a new splash pad for the park that will include water jets as well as programmable lighting. The committee, which is devoted to improving the park’s quality for all residents by providing new gathering spaces as well as enhancing community events, received a $10,000 grant in March to help close the $150,000 gap needed to begin construction on the addition.
“We are eager to break ground on the splash pad and our gala is key in getting us closer to this goal,” Village Trustee Kristina Eckert added.
The committee’s early phase improvements to the park included the installation of the entryway arch, upgraded restrooms, new playground equipment and the addition of the PWSB River Stage. Director of Community Services/Public Works Andy LaFond told the News Graphic they’re also working toward adding pickleball courts, ice skating and a new pavilion.
